AMEC is the UK's and Canada's leading private sector supplier of programme management and engineering services to the nuclear industry. With 50 years’ experience in the nuclear market, we ensure the safe and efficient operation of nuclear plants, from concept through to decommissioning. Clients include, British Energy, Bruce Power, UKAEA, British Nuclear Group, AWE Aldermaston and a wide range of international nuclear operators.
Greater demand for energy security means that the potential for new nuclear power generation is fast taking the centre stage. AMEC holds the first major contract for managing the power station re-commissioning in Canada for Bruce Power, Ontario, and we are supporting the South African National Nuclear Regulator in the assessment of the new Pebble Bed Modular Reactor, as well as supporting UK programmes.
Complex project management - we deliver projects from the initial planning stages all the way through to completion and provide support throughout the life of the asset.
Reactor Development – we have unrivalled expertise in assessing and analysing all types of nuclear reactor. We are leading the development of solutions to complex and technical challenges for reactors, including Generation IV and Fusion concepts.
Asset management – our specialist technical and engineering support ensures that we provide our clients with the most cost effective solutions and prolong the operational life of nuclear power stations.
Technical & Safety Services – As well as being the leading private sector specialist nuclear technical service provider, we bring a strong health and safety culture and robust processes to our nuclear work. We produce safety cases to ensure that each project exceeds regulatory requirements and has minimal environmental impact throughout its life.
Community engagement - we communicate effectively with local stakeholders at all stages of a project to ensure we understand and address their concerns.
Reactor new build
Greater demand for energy security means that the potential for new nuclear power generation is fast taking the centre stage. Programmes are already in place that will lead to the development of more advanced reactor technology bringing new improved solutions to economics and safety.
Our knowledge, skills and experience gained over several decades, span all major reactor types. We utilise this knowledge to provide independent nuclear expertise and support to utilities, vendors and regulators across the globe.
Our range of services provide independent technical support to utilities such as British Energy and regulators such as South African National Nuclear Regulator (NNR). .
We played a significant role as principle designer and constructor of the first and second generation of UK nuclear power plants (including the evaluation of most internationally available reactor designs). In addition, we have developed specialist knowledge on a range of international reactor technologies and licensing regimes, which provide critical support to authorities when granting reactor-type licence approval.
We have considerable expertise in assessing and analysing nuclear reactors, and have developed a range of highly specialised services, that provide solutions to some of the most challenging technical issues associated with them.
Our experience is being utilised across the whole fusion programme, from engineering support to safety and conceptual design studies for a fusion power plant.
